Course Overview
The PADI Freediver course consists of three main phases:
- Knowledge Development including freediving principles through independent study with the PADI Freediver Elearning (an Online app with videos & Quizzes, allowing you to do the theory at home before the pool session.) Your instructor will also be available to answer any questions or queries you may have
- 2 Confined Water Sessions to learn and practice breath-hold techniques as well as introduce both ‘Static’ (STA) and ‘Dynamic’ (DYN) apnea disciplines, plus proper pool freediving safety and buddying techniques.
- Goal – Static Apnea of 90 seconds
- Goal – Dynamic Apnea of 25m
- 2x Open Water Sessions (Completed in one day) which will introduce 2 new apnea disciplines ‘Free Immersion’ (FIM) and ‘Constant Weight’ (CWT), learn about equalisation, duck diving, finning technique and body positioning. as well as proper open water freediving safety & buddy procedures.
- Goal – Constant Weight freedive of 10 metres.
Requirements
- Elearning: Read and complete the home study including knowledge reviews and final exam.
- Complete quick review quiz in person with your instructor
Prerequisites
To enrol in the PADI Freediver course, you must be:
- 15 Years old or older
- Demonstrate the ability to swim continuously on the surface for 200 metres without swimming aids or for 300m with mask, snorkel and fins.
- Complete the PADI Freediver Medical History Form, the PADI Freediver Program Release of Liability form and the PADI Freediver Safe Diving Practices Statement of Understanding.

Locations
- We typically use Putney Leisure Centre as it is the biggest and best dive pool in South West London.
- We conduct the PADI Freediver Open Water sessions over one day at Wraysbury Lake near Windsor between May - September. Alternatively, we also run regular trips throughout the year out to Poland, to Europe’s deepest pool, Deepspot. The sessions can be completed in their 32C water without the need for a wetsuit. Completion
- PADI Freediver E-card (certification)
- Qualified as a Level 1 Freediver with experience and understanding of proper freediving safety and buddying requirements for both Pool & Open water freediving.
Your next Adventure
- Once you have completed the PADI Freediver course you might like to move on to the PADI Advanced Freediver course. Here you will learn to refine and improve your freediving skills further both in the pool and open water. With the introduction of new techniques such as Free-Fall, Frenzel equalisation, CO2 Tables and additional safety & rescue training all which will help take you to those deeper depths.
